Mike Catalano, PT, DPT

Dr. Mike Catalano, PT, DPT, is the founder and lead physical therapist at Roots Physical Therapy. Born and raised in NEPA, Michael is proud to serve the community that shaped him, bringing a high standard of orthopedic care back to the region he calls home.

Michael earned his Doctorate of Physical Therapy(DPT) from Arcadia University and completed an Orthopedic Physical Therapy Residency at the University of Southern California, where he and orthopedic clinical specialist and developed advanced expertise in evaluation, manual therapy, and movement-based rehabilitation. He currently serves as an adjunct professor in Arcadia University’s Doctor of Physical Therapy program, helping educate and mentor the next generation of physical therapists and ensuring his clinical practice remains grounded in the latest evidence.

His clinical approach focuses on identifying the root cause of pain and movement limitations, combining precise assessment with individualized treatment that integrates manual therapy, progressive strength training, and functional movement retraining. Every patient receives one-on-one care with a clear plan designed for long-term results.

Outside of the clinic, Mike is a husband and father of four. He remains deeply connected to an active lifestyle, by training and completing in jiu-jitsu, endurance sports, and coaching youth sports—giving him firsthand insight into the physical demands of sport, training, and everyday life. These experiences inform his practical, performance-minded approach to rehabilitation.

  • BECAUSE WE TRULY CARE….you will always have a one-on-one treatment session with a Doctor of Physical Therapy.

    We won’t just sit and tell you to do the next exercise for 3 sets of 10 reps.

    We won’t hand you off to an unskilled aide.

    We won’t apply unnecessary hot and cold packs to rack up minutes to bill your insurnace.

    We won’t drag you into therapy 2-3 times per week for 4-6 weeks.

    We value your schedule and your life’s demands. That’s why we see you only when you need it, usually 1-2x/week.

  • No! Pennsylvania is a direct access state, which means that you are able to seek treatment with a Direct-Access Physical Therapist without first seeing a medical doctor. We are a Direct-Access Provider!

  • We are contracted providers under Medicare and Highmark BC/BS.

    If you have another insurance provider, we offer out-of-network payment plans, which allow us to provide full-hour ONE-ON-ONE treatments.

    In most cases, our patients end up saving money with our cash pay model with most insurance plans having a high deductible or high co-pay with 2-3 visits a week.

  • YES! While we are an out-of-network provider, many insurance companies WILL reimburse you for your treatment with us.

    Simply let us know and we’ll provide you all the information you need to submit to your insurance to get reimbursed.

  • We accept all major credit cards, HSA/FSA , or cash.

  • Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing that allows for easy movement. Think about what you would wear to the gym or on a hike. Also, for lower body evaluations, shorts always help.

    Don’t worry, we have a private area to change and lockers to store your belongings.

  • We’re eager to hear your full story right from the start - what happened, what you’re currently experiencing in your body, and how it’s affecting you emotionally and in your everyday activities. This conversation helps us understand the complete picture so we can address your specific situation effectively.

    From there, we’ll conduct a detailed evaluation tailored to your needs, beginning with a comprehensive review of your medical history. This will be followed by a physical examination that includes posture strength, joint/muscle restrictions, gait, and other analysis of movement patterns. Our goal is to gather all the insights necessary to create a clear, personalized plan for you!
